Chlorine is used to sterilize water.  Over 95% of pools in the United States use Chlorine.  Chlorine is an effective germicidal killer! Chlorine can also neutralize viruses and bacteriaChlorine can be toxic to animals including the human species if the dose is high enough. Chlorine can do harmful damage to the lungs, skin and other major organs of the human body.  Some people swim every day and suffering from the health risks of chlorine. I am going to tell you how you can cut down on chlorine intake by prepping your skin with oil before you swim. Plus if you have your own pool? You will find some safer ways to keep your pool clean and chemical free.

some alternative methods to chlorine

Chlorine ozone

First let’s talk about some alternative methods besides cleaning your pool with chlorine. Check out ozone it’s completely free of chemicals and is probably the safest most reliable alternate you could use to keep your pool clean.  Ozone is an unstable oxygen molecule that is converted from o2 to o3.  The ozone stays 03 for about 5 minutes.  During those 5 minutes Ozone breaks down many chemical bonds.  Ozone will also neutralize viruses and bacteria. When the 5 minutes are up the ozone is gone and your pool is left with more oxygen.  Those 5 minutes are important for destroying pathogens in the water including flesh-eating bacteria that could be present in your pool.

You can get an Ozone system for your pool just be careful to look out for cheap ozone systems.  A good ozone system will have a fan to keep the components cool.  It’s worth the money! Get so many functions with ozone! You can use ozone to clean your vegetables! Ozone removes dirt and bacteria from fruits and produce. Ozone gets your water sterilized. Ozone works great for removing smells and virus from the air.  Use Ozone when you take a bath. Ozone is great for bathing.  You will feel so much cleaner using ozone and will not need as much soap.

the next alternative to chlorine you could try is hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide will cost a little bit more than chlorine.  Hydrogen peroxide is much safer for the skin and can encourage healing.   You can overdo it. If too much hydrogen peroxide is added to the water. Hydrogen peroxide will turn your hair lighter over time.   Hydrogen peroxide is a much healthier alternative to chlorine.  Depending on where you live?  Hydrogen Peroxide might not remove everything. But it’s going to remove most of the bacteria fungus and virus from the water. Food grade hydrogen peroxide would be ideal.  The food grade hydrogen peroxide is near 35 % and will need to be diluted.  The lower grades of hydrogen peroxide have binders in them and this hydrogen peroxide should not be taken internally.

Perhaps you are like me and don’t have a pool in your backyard.  I wish I did have my own pool so I can be more control of what’s in my water.   I’m stuck going to the pool at my gym.  At the gym they love putting tons of chlorine in the pool and Jacuzzi.   You can see the chlorine smoke vapors while walking by the jacuzzi.  The smell of chlorine can burn the tissue lining in your lungs.

NOw You Can Actually Minimize The Damaging Effects Of Chlorine By Preparing Your Skin Before Swimming.

Here are the steps you can do to minimize the risk of chlorine absorption in your body while you swim in a chlorinated pool.  Start by getting some coconut oil or sesame seed oil.  Then cover your body in the oil.  These oil’s will create a barrier between the water and your skin. Water is a powerful force so don’t expect the oil to hold up all day in the pool. Ideally 1 hour tops. Take a shower as soon as exiting the pool.  Hot water preferably to open the skins pores. Sesame seed oil is great for the skin making it more supple and soft.   Coconut oil seems to work pretty good as well.  The coconut oil i use has no scent so it won’t bother the other swimmers.

The Jacuzzi Has A Lot More Chlorine Than The Pool. You Don’t Want To Be Downwind Of The Chlorine Vapors Coming Out Of The Jacuzzi.

I just wanted to add a few more tips to protect yourself from chlorine. Hot and Cold water is your best friend to locking and unlocking your skin. By taking a hot shower first you open up your pores! Then add the oil so your pores absorb the oil.  Then to increase the barrier effect if you can tolerate it.. Change the water to cold or just neutral if the shower water is too cold. The skin is the largest organ of the body, it is essential to protect all the skins surface area.  I like to apply the oil right after working out. I’m using coconut oil today it’s like 4 dollars a jar.

Ideally your going to need a lot to cover all your skins surface area.  Perhaps you will need about a dollars worth of coconut oil to completely cover the skin.  Get about an hour worth of protection time from chlorine or other harmful substances. Test your skin occasionally feeling for slickness.  If you don’t feel your skin slick enough get out of the pool and reapply.  If you still feel your skin oily that’s a good sign.  Take a shower right away!  As soon as you get out of the pool take a shower. The hot shower will clear out your pores of the excess oils and chlorine.

Saturating your skin with oil could protect your body from many harmful substances in the water.  Oil does not mix with water.  Some people who swim out doors could get some benefit from this.  Just in case the rivers or lakes have some pollution like fracking or other environmental toxins or pathogens.  Southern states have flesh-eating bacteria in some of the lakes and rivers.
