Over 40 containment’s were found in Miami Dade tap water significantly higher than the national city average. Sources of the pollutants vary from farm runoff of pesticides, fertilizers and Cyanide to industrial chemicals like uranium and arsenic. The Cyanide levels are disturbing as the national average was between 1-3 (ppb) Miami had 80 (ppb) Over 40 times more than the average city.
Update did some recent testing of various water sources in miami-dade county in 2014 checked well water from a faucet that measured at 250 ppm parts per million. The bathroom faucet measured even higher 358 the water outside the same house came out to 305. And pool water tested out at 858 ppm of dissolved solids. Dasani bottled water test results 22. Mcdonalds bathroom faucet 140 ppm Mcdonalds ice water 74. You are considered to have hard water over 200. between 0-50 is usually reverse osmosis or distilled. 50-150 has some carbon filtration. The distribution and processing of the water also has some chemical residues from the pipes that transport the water to the water treatment by- products. A disturbing amount of Monochloroacetic acid over 80 times the national city average has been found in Miami-Dade county tap water. What is important to keep in mind is the legal limits usually exceed the safe health limit, so even if the water is in compliance with the law that does not mean that the water is safe to drink.
Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department – Miami, FL
2,150,000 customers – Test data time 2004-2008
Water tests through out the nation found more than 290 containment’s. More than half of these pollutants are not regulated, and can be legal in every amount. Not enough protection and dollars are put in place to stop the contamination of rivers, lakes and water reservoirs. The Data below is over a couple years old and could be slightly different.
